Background of the Study
Political marginalization, the systemic exclusion of certain groups from decision-making processes, has profound implications for community development. In Ede North Local Government Area of Osun State, marginalized communities often experience limited access to political power and resources, thereby impeding socio-economic progress. Historical inequalities, coupled with contemporary administrative practices, have perpetuated this exclusion, resulting in uneven development outcomes (Ade, 2023). Scholars have noted that when certain groups are sidelined, public policies tend to favor dominant interests, exacerbating disparities and stifling inclusive growth (Okafor, 2024). Recent empirical research underscores the critical need to address political marginalization to ensure that development policies are representative and equitable (Chukwu, 2025). This study seeks to assess the extent of political marginalization in Ede North and its consequent effects on community development. By examining the structural and operational factors that contribute to marginalization, the research aims to identify targeted interventions to promote inclusive policy-making and sustainable local development.
Statement of the Problem
In Ede North, political marginalization has led to significant disparities in resource allocation and community development. Despite policy efforts, underrepresented groups continue to face barriers in accessing political power and influencing developmental agendas. This exclusion results in skewed policy outcomes that do not adequately address the needs of the entire community. The persistent gap between marginalized communities and decision-makers undermines efforts to achieve balanced local development. This study seeks to identify and analyze the underlying factors contributing to political marginalization and its adverse effects on community progress (Ade, 2023; Okafor, 2024).
Objectives of the Study:
To evaluate the extent of political marginalization in Ede North.
To examine the impact of marginalization on community development.
To propose strategies for enhancing inclusive political participation.
Research Questions:
What factors contribute to political marginalization in Ede North?
How does marginalization affect the distribution of resources and community development?
What measures can promote inclusive participation in local governance?
Research Hypotheses:
H1: Political marginalization negatively influences community development outcomes in Ede North.
H2: There is a significant relationship between exclusionary practices and resource disparities.
H3: Inclusive governance strategies can reduce the adverse effects of marginalization.
Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it highlights the link between political marginalization and underdevelopment in Ede North. The research findings will inform policy reforms to ensure more equitable resource distribution and inclusive community development. By addressing the root causes of marginalization, the study contributes to sustainable local growth and improved democratic governance (Ade, 2023; Chukwu, 2025).
Scope and Limitations of the Study:
This study is limited to examining political marginalization and its effects on community development within Ede North Local Government Area, with a focus on structural and administrative factors.
Definitions of Terms:
Political Marginalization: The systematic exclusion of certain groups from political processes.
Community Development: The process of improving the economic, social, and environmental well-being of a community.
Inclusive Governance: A system of governance that ensures the participation of all community segments.
